    Leadership Opportunities

College is a time to learn and grow in and out of the classroom. Trying new things and taking on a leadership role can be one of the best ways to challenge yourself and learn valuable skills you can use during and after college.

At SMC, leadership development and opportunities come in different forms based on your interests. There are so many ways in which to participate and lead:

    • Orientation and Welcome Week leaders
    • On-campus student jobs
    • Club or organization leader
    • Residence hall advisors
    • Admissions Office ambassador
    • Research opportunities and much more

SMC really offers a lot of great leadership opportunities for students. So we have people like our Welcome Week Leaders, our Orientation Leaders.

I feel like it's important to have leadership skills even if it's just a soft skill. I feel like SMC has built those characteristics up for me by giving me multiple scenarios in which I have to act as a leader.

The Grady Scholarship program is an opportunity for underrepresented students.

I really enjoyed being in the program because it helped me a lot -- tremendously. They helped me with resumes, getting jobs, like they're literally preparing me outside of college.

Being a part of one of these leadership programs really helps students stand out.

Leadership is important in college because it makes you gain a sense of independence, as well as a great opportunity to get to know yourself more get to know more peers around campus, and also getting connections with staff and faculty around campus because that's a big thing.

There are so many ways that students can go out and actually be that leader on campus -- be a role model for other students.
